The Blue Vigil tether system was part of the enhanced security used by police at the Indy 500. The Indianapolis Metro Police and other agencies used their fleets of drones along with the Blue Vigil tethered drone system to monitor crowds and the event. This combination of forces provided superior observation of the activities during race weekend. The security forces were granted a special exemption from the FAA to allow for such a mission.
